 Rex Heuermann Pleads Guilty to Killing 8 Women in Gilgo Beach Serial Murders

In a major development in the long-running Gilgo Beach serial killings case, Rex Heuermann has pleaded guilty to murdering seven women and admitted responsibility for the death of an eighth victim, bringing a significant breakthrough to a case that has gripped the nation for over a decade.

The 62-year-old former architect entered his guilty plea in Suffolk County Court on April 8, 2026. As part of the plea agreement, Heuermann confessed to killing eight women, including Karen Vergata, whose death had previously not been formally charged.

Prosecutors revealed that the murders spanned approximately 17 years, with victims’ remains discovered in areas including Gilgo Beach, Manorville, and Southampton. In court, Heuermann admitted to meeting the victims, strangling them, and disposing of their bodies in these locations.

Under the terms of the plea deal, Heuermann will not face additional charges related to Vergata’s death. He has also agreed to cooperate with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as investigators continue to examine the full scope of the case.

The guilty plea marks a pivotal moment for victims’ families and law enforcement, offering long-awaited answers in one of the most notorious serial murder investigations in recent U.S. history.
