Danielle Russell began her career with Dunkirk City Schools in 2021, serving first as Principal of School 7 and Director of Special Education before taking the helm at School 5. “Mrs. Russell was a devoted and caring administrator who loved our district and the family and students she worked with at School 5,” Swatland stated. Her commitment to student well-being and academic growth created a supportive environment where all could thrive.
Russell’s passing follows a leave of absence announced on March 23 to focus on her health. In her memory, her family has established a GoFundMe to fund a scholarship supporting future students in Dunkirk. Carol Smith has been appointed interim principal to continue Russell’s work at School 5.
